Position Title: Director of Product Engineering

Location: Remote

Your role The Director of Product Engineering handles the overall health and performance of Service Fabric's engineering teams. Service Fabric is our next-generation global interconnection fabric, supporting 285+ data centers across 50 metros in 26 countries globally. Service Fabric is the foundational capability that enables our data center platform to be successful going forward. This document outlines the scope of your responsibilities.

What you’ll do

You are charged with building and leading the Service Fabric engineering function. This role is ultimately responsible for all technical work related to operating, supporting, and enhancing Service Fabric.
You are responsible for defining long-term technical initiatives and feature roadmaps in close collaboration with Product Management and other stakeholders.
You define leadership culture and long-term management goals in collaboration with your direct reports.
You ensure all engineering teams' efforts are aligned with company vision and strategic product goals.
You collaborate with engineering team managers and product managers to support product integrity and on-time delivery.
You foster an inclusive and supportive environment which encourages professional growth.
The scope of this role may vary depending on business needs with several engineering managers managing 1-2 engineering teams each reporting to a single director of engineering.
Learning and Development Attract, hire, onboard, and retain diverse top talent. Support direct reports and their teams through management activities such as coaching, mentoring, and meeting facilitation. Ensure adequate funding for employee development activities.
Performance Management Conduct regular 1:1s, goal setting, and feedback conversations with direct reports. Encourage direct reports to provide the same to their teams. Ensure all performance reviews for direct and indirect reports are completed on time as per corporate policy.

Process and Product Maintain high levels of transparency about team efforts to internal and external stakeholders. Foster effective collaboration across engineering teams and product management. Ensure all engineering teams are executing efficiently and have productive relationships with product management as appropriate.
Business Value Delivery Achieve strategic goals by consistently delivering incremental business value over time in collaboration with Product Management.
Reliability and Performance You are not expected to regularly write or review code. However, you are accountable for the technical decisions made by Service Fabric engineering teams and the overall reliability, performance, and operational cost of Service Fabric systems.
Hiring Plan Develop an annual hiring plan based on product roadmap and other technical goals in collaboration with Product Management and your direct reports. Ensure the plan is included in the overall CTO Organization budget.
Employee Development Develop an annual professional development plan and budget in collaboration with engineering team managers. Ensure the plan is included in the overall CTO Organization budget.
Capacity Planning Ensure regular usage and capacity reviews occur for relevant systems. Identify expansion needs based on usage growth and forecasted trends. Responsible for supplying accurate cost estimates for inclusion in the annual CTO Organization budget.

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relevant experience
10+ years in product and/or engineering roles
7+ years of leading and developing technical teams, especially at least 15-30 engineers
Expert in process and product engineering
