Position Title: Legal, Risk, & Sustainability Operations Sr. Manager


About the Role:

Digital is seeking a meticulous, organized, and highly motivated individual to join our Legal, Risk, & Sustainability Team (LRS) as Sr. Manager of Operations – Legal, Risk, & Sustainability Team. This position will report directly to the EVP, General Counsel.

In this role, you will mature our legal, risk, compliance, and sustainability teams by building on and maintaining our departmental culture of efficiency and innovation.  The successful candidate will possess the ability to complete complex tasks and projects quickly, react with appropriate urgency to situations and events that require quick response or turnaround, take effective action without having to know the total picture and efficiently and creatively solve difficult or complex problems that affect people within the group or other related groups. It is important for the candidate to be able to operate independently with, at times, limited guidance.

The candidate will also be client-service oriented, have great attention to detail while still meeting tight deadlines, have great organizational skills and can quickly switch gears.  A high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and professionalism in dealing with senior professionals inside and outside the company is key.


Primary Responsibilities:

Leading LRS team project initiatives and planning, including: 

  • Management and support on team projects on-time and on-budget, such as knowledge management, process improvements, workload, workflow, roles & responsibilities, among others.
  • Development and implementation of a multi-year process improvement and technology roadmap, partnering with internal stakeholders, including IT.
  • Establish and provide regular reporting on strategic planning initiatives.


Primary responsibility for data collection and analysis, KPIs, & reporting, including:

  • Lead and enhance matter level data collection efforts using SimpleLegal, SharePoint and other tools.
  • Establish and provide regular reporting on data collection initiatives.
  • Develop and implement KPIs and develop associated dashboards and reports in coordination with EVP, General Counsel & LRS Leadership Team.


Oversight and management of department budget, including:

  • Lead and manage the annual budgeting process, in coordination with FP&A.
  • Attend monthly budget updates with FP&A.
  • Provide EVP, General Counsel & the LRS Leadership Team with monthly budget updates.
  • Monitor and report on team spending and financial resources.


Responsible for all aspects of outside counsel and vendor management and relationships, including:

  • Managing process for selection of vendors and service providers.
  • Engaging, onboarding and managing all vendor and service provider relationships, including periodic reviews.
  • The company’s Legal Services Guidelines and other policies and procedure for vendors.
  • Coordinating communications with external law firms and other service providers.


Strategic advisor and technology liaison, including: 

  • Stay current of latest technology developments and assess capabilities of solutions relevant to various areas, including contract management, board management, compliance management, ESG reporting and e-discovery.
  • Curating, creating, updating, and maintaining processes and practices to improve the day-to-day efficiency and effectiveness of the team.
  • Identify and manage implementation of department tools to streamline new or existing practices and provide training and support to team members.
  • Maintenance of team’s knowledge management tools and investigation of new tools.
  • Facilitate and drive cross-functional relationships across the Company (including Sales, Finance, HR, Portfolio Management).
  • Oversee management of electronic record keeping and library management.


 Other responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage all-hands meetings and business partner meetings (HR, Finance, & IT).
  • Coordinate and manage team offsites.
  • As needed, attend meetings, take minutes, and follow up on meeting action items on EVP, General Counsel’s behalf.
  • Support departmental and broader organization communications in cooperation with the Corporate Communications team.
  • Facilitate and drive cross-functional relationships across the Company (including Sales, Finance, HR, Portfolio Management).
  • Lead and manage the Team’s annual departmental goal planning efforts.
  • Lead and manage all associated quarterly scorecard updates and year-end department goal review requirements.
  • Manage Legal interns and workload intake.
  • Lead, manage, and update procedures for departmental intern program.
  • Lead and manage new hire on-boarding training, new software training, and new process rollout training.
  • Facilitate and drive cross-functional relationships across the Company (including Sales, Finance, HR, Portfolio Management).
  • Manage departmental and broader organization on legal processes and procedures. 
  • Organize and maintain team records and maintain and improve the department’s SharePoint site.


Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience within project operations and management in-house or at a law firm (both preferred).
  • Technology or real estate company experience preferred.
  • Strong experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining legal department technology solutions (e.g., demand management, document management, contract management, E-Billing (SimpleLegal preferred), self-service contracting, e-signature, and knowledge management, etc.).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional groups (e.g., Finance, Procurement, IT, etc.) to set objectives and produce meaningful results.
  • Experience with O365/SharePoint, ServiceNow, Yardi, and SimpleLegal preferred.
  • Willing and eager to take on projects involving unfamiliar subject matter.
  • Prior experience developing forms, processes, policies, FAQs, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently move projects forward by gaining support needed from stakeholders across the company and leading in a cross-functional role.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with diligence, organization, and minimal supervision.
