Position: Construction Accountant

 

Opportunity Snapshot

This role will give you the opportunity to enhance your skillset by incorporating high level of technological skills in an entirely paperless environment and be given the autonomy to find new or more creative and resourceful ways to accomplish the department's objectives. As a Construction Accountant you will partner with construction management personnel to ensure the financial success of projects around the globe, apply principles of accounting to record and analyze financial information and prepare financial reports, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of a global organization. 

 

The Requirements 

To be a good fit for the Construction Accountant opportunity, you will have:

  • Four-year accounting degree and a minimum of 3 years real estate construction/job cost accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Yardi Job Cost experience is a plus, but not required
  • Textura Payment Management platform experience is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of construction cost accounting and general accounting.
  • Experience participating in monthly close efforts, including but not limited to preparing CIP accruals.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where deadlines are tight and priorities evolve.
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral.
  • Good interpersonal skills and proven ability to collaborate with construction management stakeholders
  • An appetite for growth and learning, you will roll up your sleeves and partner with construction management personnel to implement global payment solution initiatives.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data and perform quantitative analyses. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, accounting and internet software.

Just as important will be the following qualities and characteristics:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret relevant financial reports, legal documents, accounting pronouncements, regulations, and corporate policies. 
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries and/or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, members of the business community, peer professionals, and management.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and direct and/or contractor employees.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction contracts, lien releases, and other pertinent construction documents.

 

 

The Role

The Construction Accountant will report to the Manager, Construction Accounting and will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain construction management system, including setting up projects (jobs), budgets, job costs, cost codes, contracts, change orders, purchase orders, and various construction progress reports.
  • Processing of General Contractor pay applications; collaborate with GCs to ensure compliance with company policy and timely payment processing
  • Working with outside auditors on pay application reviews and final audits
  • Review and analyze capitalization of costs.
  • Participate in monthly close efforts, and proactively contribute to process improvement initiatives affecting the monthly close.
  • Analyze and review construction status with Project/Construction Managers. Direct and participate in cost analyses.
  • Implement, document, and maintain internal controls and systems, including Sarbanes-Oxley 404 controls. Interface with internal and external auditors. Prepare/gather materials related to construction and cost accounting matters for internal and external auditors.
