We are looking for a new member of our team based (or willing to relocate) in our new Data Center Site, in Heraklion, Crete.
Purpose
The Site Engineer II (based in Heraklion, Crete) core responsibility is to perform infrastructure related activities in our Data Centres to ensure a reliable and efficient operation of the technical infrastructure. This is achieved through maintenance, testing and surveillance of all assets installed.
The Site Engineer II is responsible for trouble shooting, assembly and day to day scheduling of maintenance tasks.
The Site Engineer II role is critical to meet Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) and deliver client satisfaction, and when applicable being part of a 7x24 shift rotation.
Responsibilies and Duties
Overall Responsibilities:
- Drive adherence to company safety policies, operational efficiency, and core values.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and legal requirements.
- Manage maintenance and repair operations, including coordination with subcontractors.
- Perform on-call duties and manage incidents as necessary.
- Document progress, issues, and results, and implement improvement measures.
- Provide supervision to Site Engineers I, including task assignment, performance evaluation, and professional development guidance.
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in technical skills pertinent to the role, covering troubleshooting and maintenance tasks.
Operations and Compliance:
- Coordinate and execute equipment or system switching procedures as required, ensuring seamless transitions and minimal disruption to data center operations.
- Contribute to the DC operating energy efficiency and implement assigned optimization measures.
- Provide solutions for site management and adhere to SLAs agreed in customer contracts.
- Ensure site overall appearance and cleanliness, escalating shortfalls when necessary.
- Proactively indicate and report if SLAs are in danger of being breached.
- Ensure all work is carried out within a 'safe system' and approved work processes, complying with best practice standards and legal requirements.
Maintenance and Repair Works:
- Responsible for maintenance and repair works as assigned by the Site Operations Management and/or planned by the Technical Ops Planning function.
- Makes decisions with respect to maintenance tasks within the guidelines of local Site Management.
- Responsible for coordination and supervision of subcontractors and external suppliers.
- Responsible for trouble shooting, assembly, and the day-to-day scheduling of Maintenance activities.
On-call Duties and Incident Management:
- When applicable, On-call duty which includes monitoring and day-to-day infrastructure surveillance and inspections via regular site walks and monitoring the building management system.
- Incident management in close cooperation with the Manager on Duty.
- Responsible for activating and executing Emergency Operating Procedures where necessary.
- Responsible to pro-actively indicate and report if SLAs are in danger of being breached.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Responsible to document the progress, issues, and results of the assigned maintenance tasks.
- Executes and drafts MOP’s, Change Requests (CR), and EOP’s.
Team Management and Leadership:
- Supervise a team of Site Engineers I and II when needed.
- Provide leadership to site teams and contribute to decision-making for maintenance-related matters.
- Support less experienced engineers with mentoring, advice, and training.
Additional Responsibilities
- Execute ad hoc projects as instructed, including but not limited to fire safety initiatives, environmental sustainability, energy efficiency optimization, security enhancement, disaster recovery planning, compliance audits, capacity planning, and technology integration.
- Consistently strive to develop and increase skills & expertise.
- Be an active participant and make observations & suggestions towards the improvement of the data center effectiveness and efficiency.
Hard Skills
- 2+ years of experience in ‘Mission critical’ operations and maintenance of large scale electrotechnical and/or mechanical systems
- Education: Electrical Engineer ATEI
- Technical education / training certification in the field of ‘Mission Critical’ Operations.
- Education to a vocational level in a technical field and/or site engineering position
- Skilled in maintenance of electrotechnical and/or mechanical systems
- Preferably skilled in the maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems
- Novice in maintenance of conveyor technique (elevators), and/or technical security systems (CCTV, Access Control)
- HVAC Mechanical and/or Electrical
- Digital Realty Internal certifications
- Proficient in utilizing various test equipment.
Soft Skills:
- Having excellent problem analysis skills
- Pro-active with a Customer and Business focused and is searching for ways to enhance the agreed services to provide the customer with the best possible outcome.
- Has attention to detail and having a ‘Hands-on’ mentality.
- Is stress resilient.
