Your role 

The Sr. Reliability Engineer – Mechanical will partner with Regional Management and Global peers to help drive a customer and employee-focused culture of safety, operational excellence, and consistency across Digital Realty’s global footprint. 

 

The role will be responsible for developing and implementing global standards and processes to align technical and engineering operations across Digital Realty’s global data center portfolio. The position will implement operational strategies, process improvement and performance analytics across infrastructure operation, maintenance and incident management.  This role is a key contributor to driving global reliability and will partner with regional leadership to support design & operational improvements, infrastructure failure root cause analysis and identification and implementation of remedial actions.

 

What you’ll do 

  • As the high density and liquid cooling Subject Matter Expert representing Global Technical Operations, partner with Design, Construction, Product and Advanced Engineering teams to evaluate new technologies, products and design concepts.
  • Drive consistency, standardization and improvement of the operation of the MEPFP systems throughout the portfolio.
  • Collaborate with regional teams and global peers to establish and maintain global standards for engineering operations across infrastructure operation, maintenance & testing, change management, incident management, commissioning/acceptance and reliability. 
  • Drive global reliability analysis to identify failure trends across OEM, infrastructure design, operational procedures, or training. Analyze cross-regional failure trends to identify systemic problems and track remediation across the global footprint.
  • Implement operational performance reporting and KPI program – globally, regionally, and cross-operational department – including availability, human error trends, OEM infrastructure performance, safety, and other industry common performance indicators.
  • Be a point of escalation and provide guidance and direction to the regional Reliability and site teams during incidents/events affecting site operation and drive root cause analysis and remediation across the portfolio.
  • Develop operational and risk related metrics dashboard for DC Operations site teams.
  • Develop and distribute technical bulletins and provide input into new standards for Operations teams. Coordinate these with field bulletins of OEMs.
  • Develop and manage a global knowledge base for aggregation and dissemination of Lessons Learned, Action Bulletins and risks identified through incident trend analysis.
  • Assist the regional Reliability and site DC Operations teams with technical projects and major activities, especially as they relate to implementation of lessons learned and corrective measures.  Ensure that risk management principles are adhered to.
  • Collaborate with the regional Reliability and Design/Construction teams to ensure that commissioning standards are appropriate and globally consistent. 

 

 

What you’ll need

  • Over seven years of experience in the design, commissioning or operation of Data Centers or Critical Facilities. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in design and/or operation of critical MEP infrastructure, including water-cooled and air-cooled air conditioning systems, varied Uninterruptible Power System technologies, Emergency Power Systems, medium voltage systems, critical data center electrical and mechanical distribution systems, and monitoring systems.  Preference is for strong HVAC and high density cooling background.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the operations, maintenance, engineering, construction, and delivery of mission critical facilities.
  • Ability to analyze and assess problems affecting critical operation of facilities, and propose solutions, at times with limited information.
  • Ability to effectively synthesize issues or incidents affecting operations to both management and customers.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze and interpret complex project documents and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Competent in the use of software products including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio. Knowledge of monitoring, control, and maintenance management systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to present and communicate to internal and external customers.
