Position Title: Design Engineer
Location: London

Your role

Provides pre-contract technical expertise and input to sales teams and customers. The Design Engineer (DE) gives input into bids/proposals. The Design Engineer (DE) leads the design of the agreed service solution, to ensure that the customer requirements and implementation lead times are met. The Design engineer will be a subject matter expert (SME) for assets across the UK portfolio.

What you’ll do 

  • Provides an assessment on Power, Cooling, and Space availability at the budgetary quotephase. 
  • Provides a technical design for a new datacentre whitespace opportunity, existing design amendments, and/or bespoke or adhoc customer requests (COF) and ensures that overall customer requirements and implementation lead times can be met. 
  • Plans and coordinates required resources and capabilities and acts as the key interface with Capacity Management, Facility Management, Security, DE&C, and provide technical pre-Sales support. 
  • Ensures that corporate design principles (DEG) with respect to standardisation, power, cooling, and space are followed and reflected in the designs. 
  • Defines solutions costs (incl. CAPEX) and/or suitable alternatives and their associated risks. 
  • Adhere to the QHSSE Responsibilities Matrix. 
  • Approves technical design at the Design function

Reporting Lines and Competencies

  • The position reports to the Solution Engineering Lead UK. Internal contact is with Operations, Security, Service Planning, Finance, DE&C, PMG & Sales.

  • Proficient AutoCAD user would be desirable. 
  • Experience with white space design & M&E infrastructure. 
  • Experience with building design.

What you'll need 

  • Work experience in the data centre sector or telecommunications for at least 3-5 years desirable. 
  • Electrical • Mechanical 
  • Building Design 
  • CNET / DCPRO or other industry qualifications related to design.
