As a member of Data Center Operations - EOH&S, you will be responsible for the deployment of functional, localized EOH&S operations and activities within North America. You will play a critical role in ensuring all EOHS issues are identified and addressed by working collaboratively with cross functional teams and contractors to protect Digital Realty’s interests. This role will also provide additional support and project management oversight to new and critical EOH&S initiatives. Your goal is to ensure environmental protection, pollution prevention, health, and safety for all Digital Realty employees and sites. Your proactive approach means you are consistently working to improve data center EOH&S performance. You meet and manage all EOH&S legal requirements while monitoring and supporting all site activity at Digital Realty’s data centers on the East Coast, and always operate according to best-in-class EOH&S practices. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you respond to data center EOH&S issues and incidents to minimize the impact.

The Requirements

 

Minimum qualifications: 

  • Bachelor degree in Safety, Environmental Science or related fields.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in EOH&S consulting and/or corporate EOH&S program management.
  • Knowledgeable in the compliance requirements of the pertinent codes, regulations and standards. At a minimum, must have knowledge and experience with the codes, regulations, and standards of at least one East Coast state.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time-management and multitasking skills.
  • Must be able and willing to travel as needed.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • MSc degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Data center, hospital, FDA or power plant experience with EPA/OSHA regulations and training experience.
  • Professional EOH&S Certification (CSP, CHMM, REM, etc.).
  • Experience in a 24x7 work environment; experience in project management leadership at multiple sites simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing EOH&S best practices.
  • Demonstrated attitude to be a part of a high impact, industry-leading EOH&S program.
  • Experience communicating with government authorities regarding EOH&S issues.

The Role

  • Ensure that the EOH&S team provides EOH&S and Environmental Health and Safety Management System (EOH&SMS) technical expertise and act as a positive resource to East Coast regional data center operations.
  • Prepare or oversee the completion of site-specific permitting (e.g., air, hazardous material, etc.). Work with third-party contractors as needed; complete or ensure completion of monitoring activities as required by permits and/or company procedures.
  • Assist with emergencies when they occur (conduct and document annual emergency drills, participate in projects to continually improve Digital Realty’s EOH&S Management System, etc.)
  • Conduct or ensure environmental/safety training is completed. Perform risk assessments to identify hazards and the required controls to mitigate.
  • Investigate EOH&S-related incidents and identify root causes and appropriate corrective actions. Assist site management in developing lockout procedures/processes or to include safety information in operating procedures.
  • Conduct inspections as required by company programs and/or regulations. Communicate with East Coast site management to keep them informed on the EOH&S status of the data centers.
  • Monitor and ensure EOH&S compliance for our East Coast regional data centers to confirm uninterrupted operations at all times. Collaborate with Design & Construction (D&C) when necessary on all EOH&S matters related to new data center constructions and modifications.
  • Provide back-up leadership within the region for all EOH&S programs and initiatives as necessary.
  • Develop systems to evaluate the effectiveness of local program implementations, to ensure consistency across all sites.
  • Lead efforts to implement solutions in relation to Risk and Compliance Assessment processes; develop creative solutions that meet regulatory/corporate requirements while minimizing business impact. Track, analyze and communicate EOH&S performance.
  • Develop, deploy, and/or maintain site-specific safety plans, focusing on the identification and mitigation of operational risks, including but not limited to: emergency response plans and maps, EPCRA/Tier II data/information, SPCC Plans, OSHA 300A reports, EOPs (e.g., wet cell battery spills, diesel fuel spills, etc.), and other EOH&S documents.
