Network Service Engineer

Position Title: Network Service Engineer
Location: London

Your role

The Network Service engineer is responsible to monitor and maintain Digital Realty`s Cloud Connect and Metro Connect Network to ensure minimum network downtime and customer service impacts. Troubleshoot all network incidents and any customer reported services issue within agreed upon SLA.  If needed, the engineer is responsible to co-ordinate with internal and external providers to troubleshoot and fix any network/customer service issues.

You will need to be open to shift work and the possibility of working in the office 5 days per week.

What you'll do

  • Network Monitoring, Incident Management, Incident Diagnosis and Incident Resolution within SLA's, OLA's and KPI's, ensuring that all incidents are investigated in a timely manner.
  • Provide regular updates to ticketing systems whilst progressing incidents through to resolution.
  • Liaising and escalating with external suppliers and other Interxion departments to ensure minimum disruption and downtime on the network.
  • Keep in touch with new network technology supported by the NOC.
  • Work on any assigned network expansion projects.
  • Suggest and where needed enhance/create support and Troubleshooting Documents.

What you’ll need

  • Working experience of IP/MPLS (Juniper MX Series desirable)
  • Working experience of Optical Ethernet and Transport Network. (Ciena 6500 desirable)
  • Working Understanding of Routing
  • Working experience of VMWare 
  • Working experience of Linux systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure Express Route /AWS Direct Connect/Google Connect or other CSP services an advantage.
  • knowledge of Python and Ansible would be an advantage
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent and effective communications skills, both orally and written
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure.
  • Managing Customer expectations and providing platinum customer service
  • Own tickets till resolution and focus on resolving customer issues while managing internal resolver groups. 


  • A degree in telecommunications or equivalent, relevant industry experience. Professional Certification (CCNA, JNCIA) certified.
  • Experience of working within a Network Management or Operations Centre environment within the Managed Services (data or voice), Telecoms Sector, ISP, or Cloud Service Provider
  • Experience of working within a Data Centre (co-location) provider is an advantage. 
  • Experience with network monitoring tools
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP 
  • Experience of trouble-ticketing systems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • LAN and WAN troubleshooting skills including Physical layer cabling issues within a co-location environment.
