Cost and Insight Manager

Your role

The capital cost management professional has a proven track record of working in contracting, consulting and client-side organisations providing commercial assurance and insight over individual capital projects.

The role may be required, from time to time, to maintain relationships with key external suppliers/vendors to ensure   we understand market dynamics and cost trends in each of the locations we operate.

The role supports the Cost and Procurement Director achieve the right balance of insourced and out-sourced activity.

Design and Construction’s goals are to ensure consistency of delivered outcomes across all countries, to reduce building cost by > 25% for large scale new build projects and to reduce the overall speed of delivery to allow customer fit-outs to be delivered within 4 months of customer orders.

Standardisation of building design and equipment and ensuring delivery of consistent ways of working across Design, Construction, Cost Management and procurement are key pillars of delivering future success.

What you’ll need

  • To work in the D&C Team to lead and be accountable for all aspects of Project cost management.
  • To provide cost control, assurance and insight and to ensure our goals of delivering projects faster and cheaper projects are on track.
  • To deliver accurate and consistent forecasting and internal and external benchmarking metrics to the Cost Management Director
  • Programme Cost Management and Programme Cost / Risk reporting responsibilities
    • Ensuring accurate and timely cost information is presented at programme level fortnightly and monthly as required.
    • Producing monthly reporting comparing budget v forecast and that accurate cash flow information is being tracked and reported.
    • Ensuring project change trends are being tracked, summarised and root causes identified to help with continuous improvement.
  •  Project Cost Management and Project Cost / Risk reporting responsibilities
    • Cost modelling of proposed schemes – in conjunction with External QS practices and / or self-produced estimates with appropriate Peer reviews.
    • Ensuring Budget Tracking Tool (BTT) production on all projects at all stages is in line with Global Standards and Gating Process and any variances from expected norms are clearly called out.
    • Ensure Value management / value review exercises are carried out at appropriate times through the process
    • Ensuring construction budget management is fully in line with internal processes. (Including pre- construction and post-construction change control processes and contingency).
    • Ensuring that all project pre and post construction COR processes are appropriately set up and consistently managed.
    • Ensure cost requests for sales enquires, or the like, are handled in a timely, effective and consistent manner.
    • Ensure all commercial risks are reported on a monthly basis
  • Procurement and Commercial Rigour
    • Ensuring final accounts, contractual disputes etc are tracked and managed to successful conclusion.
    • Ensuring warranties, bonds, novation agreement, deeds, etc etc are tracked managed to successful conclusion.
  • Commercial Insight, analysis and Competitor Benchmarking
    • Reliable cost estimation information output metrics benchmarked to market.
    • Support the creation fully costed design standards and ongoing management of any emerging changes to standards.
    • Ensure cost analogues are available for helping decision making and benchmarking.
  • Financial Administration
    • Implement cost and Commercial management processes at all times.
    • Ensuring all projects fully comply with DLRs financial controls processes.
    • Ensure full change control processes are being followed.
    • Flag up any risks, potential changes or actual changes in a timely, transparent and accurate way.  
    • Ensure all cost information is uploaded to the ‘Portal’ in an accurate and timely way.

Requirements

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying paired with professional qualifications
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently, as we build the combined organization
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Experience in leading or playing a senior role in a significant projects / transaction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional relationship building skills, both internally & externally
  • High levels of attention to detail and ability to join the dots in ambiguous environments
  • Experience and high level of competence in Microsoft Office and in particular Excel
  • Well-organized with ability to prioritize and work towards tight deadlines and corporate objectives
  • Self-motivated and goal oriented
