Head of Project Management Office UK

Your role

The Head of Project Management UK will lead and oversee capital projects associated with risk management, improvement (e.g., efficiency), infrastructure replacement or smaller re-construction. You will lead a team of internal and external Project Managers.  Working as Head of PMO UK you will manage the portfolio of UK capital projects to ensure we achieve our business targets and exceed our customers’ expectations. 

You will also be required to:

  • Define, build, maintain and manage a project management office (PMO), maintaining and building the governance process to be aligned with existing and future DLR sites.
  • Attract, develop and retain a high-quality team of Project Managers.
  • Select & manage various partnerships to enable the projects to be executed.
  • Take ownership of and complete multi-disciplined mechanical, electrical and building contracts profitably, on programme and in line with DLR standards and processes.
  • Maximise profit through cost reductions and efficient procurement of subcontractor services.
  • Manage and maintain the capital project budget process [I-UP]
  • Responsible for the appointment of appropriate main/sub-contractors and materials/ equipment required to carry out the identified projects. You are to ensure that all selections have been previously approved.
  • Ensuring thorough & complete handover of the completed works to the DLR operations teams, including full O&M & preparation of as-built drawings.
  •  The Head of Project Management UK is accountable to the Responsible Person for safety on project sites, always ensuring that project site safety is not impaired by personnel under DLR control and that ‘Risk Assessments and Method Statements’ (RAMS) are produced timely, studied, approved and above all adhered to. Issue reports as required with relevant monitoring statistics.
  • Lead regular project review meetings with relevant stakeholders covering all aspects of the project including but not limited to Health & Safety / CDM Legislation and Requirements.
  • Ensure that all projects adhere to, and are managed via commercial agreements / contracts. They must comply with statutory regulations, are QHSE compliant and meet technical industry and D&C standards.
  • Identify, reduce and manage all risks (technical, statutory, health and safety, commercial or otherwise) associated with each project.
  • Manage and facilitate development of the PMO team, including procurement programme, quality and cost.

What you’ll need

You will be results driven, whilst maintaining a keen eye for detail on scope, quality, programme and budget. Working closely with the incumbent facilities and operations teams whilst maintaining over-arching responsibility for the full project duration.

  • Extensive project management experience in either an M&E, construction or critical engineering environment.
  • Proven experience of running multiple, concurrent projects.
  • Previous experience of operating at senior level.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Broad understanding of construction Health and Safety law and legislation.
  • Recognised qualification preferably to degree or master level in either a construction, mechanical or electrical discipline 
  • Recognised project management qualification (MAPM or equivalent).
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead the teams they manage, instilling the correct cultures to satisfy the safe delivery of all projects.
  • An excellent relationship builder.
  • Highly organised with attention to detail.
