Director, Data Center Operations

Position Title: Regional Director – Data Center Operations

Location: Location is open to DLR locations: New Jersey/New York, Chicago area, or Boston region of Digital Realty

Your Role:

The Regional Director-Data Center Operations is responsible for the leadership, management and vision for the technical operations of Data Centers within the area of responsibility.   This individual will lead and manage Regional Managers of Data Center Operations in order to ensure top to bottom excellence and standardization in data center day to day and strategic service delivery.

The Director is a strategic thinker who also possesses the skills and ability to respond to tactical challenges that present risk to critical data center operations, and will work closely with other Regional Directors to ensure standards and consistency in service delivery across the portfolio. 

 

What you’ll do

  • Provide tactical and strategic leadership in the execution of Data Center technical operations.
  • Develop, revise and implement cost-effective and efficient solutions to meet the current and future requirements related to the operation of complex systems and processes supporting mission-critical data center facilities.
  • Frequently collaborate with other Regional Directors to ensure consistency and standardization in operations delivery.
  • Participate in global and/or regional Change Management Approval Board, ensuring all Change Management in region is comprehensive, complete, and ready for CAB approval prior to submission for global review.
  • Ensure execution of site-level and regional audits and drills, and develop/approve improvement plans and ensure compliance with all department KPIs.
  • Enforce uniform roll-out and implementation of standards, action bulletins, directives, and operational requirements across region.
  • Provide customer-facing presence for Data Center Operations with regards to in-region customer business reviews, strategic and tactical customer operations-related requests and projects/initiatives, operations issue escalation, resolution and follow-up.
  • Develop, lead and support in-region goals and initiatives.
  • Ensure consistency in regional capital budgeting, infrastructure upgrade strategic plans, and operational budgets.
  • Develop and implement strategies for in-region investment in Operations talent and team health, succession planning and opportunities for growth for operating staff.
  • Interface with peer departments (Sales, Sales Engineering, Asset Management, Design/Construction, etc.) to ensure operational concerns are represented and addressed consistently in accordance with DLR standards and requirements.
  • Identify and address gaps in process/procedures and regional staff skills/abilities that adversely affect the reliable and efficient operation of the in-region data centers.

 

What you’ll need

  • Undergraduate Degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years experience in Mission Critical / Data Center related field.
  • Strong management presence with track record of strategic accomplishments and ability to respond to tactical challenges.
  • Strong leader with team building and talent development ability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of mission critical facilities, systems, interconnectivity, design, and operational best-practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects, initiatives, and challenges simultaneously.

  • Proven high-level thinker skilled in complex problem solving, with excellent interpersonal, collaboration and prioritization abilities.
  • Mission Critical Data Center Facility Maintenance Programs/Practices
  • Mission Critical Data Center Facility Design and Operation Best Practices
  • Microsoft and Adobe Office Applications
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and Change Management process.
  • Frequent travel within region and occasionally within the US
