Sr. Associate, Solutions Engineering

Position Title:  Solutions Engineer

Location: Dallas, TX

Your role

This role will be an entry level position that will help you develop and build a Sales and Technical skillset required to work with Digital Realty’s diverse customer base worldwide.  As an Associate Sales Engineer, you will make an impact across multiple functions as you work collaboratively with your peers to deliver presales functional support to prospective customers. You will provide back of the house support to our front line engineers while learning electrical, mechanical, telecom, and related disciplines This position will give you the opportunity to gain knowledge about Digital Realty’s cutting edge approach to solving customers data gravity needs and the exciting data center industry overall. 

You will gain insight into space planning best practices and become proficient in data center design analysis.  You will also help coordinate resources to respond to RFP’s as you grow to take on your own accounts as a Sales Engineer.

What you’ll do

  • Assisting with and participating in prospect engagements, including assisting with customer RFP’s, preparing for site tours, sales calls, proposal generation, pricing and contract negotiations.
  • Participating in the evaluation of customer needs, the design and presentation of preliminary solutions to meet those needs.
  • Acquiring knowledge and understanding related to the facility infrastructure and nuances associated with various buildings.
  • Learning how to use state of the art CFD modeling software to analyze cooling architectures.
  • Using AutoCAD to assist customers with designing the most efficient layouts within the data center
  • Collecting and reviewing facility construction and engineering drawings with customers.
  • Learning how to review and apply information from the Design Engineering Guidelines in interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Liaising with the professional community, including attending technical forums.
  • Monitoring and evaluating technology trends in prospective and existing customer base.
  • Assisting with administration of training and development for the Sales Engineering Team.

What you’ll need

  • Bachelor's degree, ideally in Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Telecom, and Construction Management or the equivalent combination of education and experience.   
  • The ability to work cross-functionally with multiple internal stakeholders in providing customer solutions including cabinet configuration, electrical design, cooling strategies, and connectivity.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills. This is a customer facing role that will require excellent public speaking and presentation skills. Candidates should be familiar working with or on behalf of end users.
  • Basic understanding of at least one of the following:
    • Networking
    • Telecommunications
    • Electrical provisioning / configuration
    • Mechanical cooling systems
    • Electrical Systems
    • Knowledge of Design and Construction process is highly desirable
  • The ability to work well under pressure and take a proactive approach in handling issues and providing solutions.
  • Good organizational skills are a must along with a disciplined approach to completing assignments attention to detail and openness to suggest, entertain, and develop new ideas and procedures.
  • Able to juggle multiple projects and manage time with minimal supervision. Must be self motivated and able to manage his or her time responsibly to deliver projects on time.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel; Visio and Adobe Acrobat.

Preferred Qualifications for Consideration:

  • Project management skills including experience with document management and project tracking.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience working with a multi-customer data center or colocation provider, telecommunications, networking, data security, hosting, high tech facilities, mission-critical construction, engineering consulting or other related field.
  • Experience participating in data center / telecom projects, including coordinating design, subcontractors and construction.
  • General familiarity with datacenters, telecom carrier operations, or related business models.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, 6Sigma Room, IRI Tileflow, Adobe Illustrator and Visio a plus.
  • Must feel comfortable speaking in public and presenting to groups of 8-20 people in meetings and providing tours to large groups of people upwards of 50 when required.
  • The ability to:
    • Grasp big picture requirements and translate them into detail-level specifications.
    • Comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex project documents.
    • Apply installation standards and project tracking / management documents.
  • A bachelor's degree, ideally in an analytical field like engineering.

Our Compensation Philosophy

Digital Realty offers its employees a highly competitive compensation package, excellent benefits, and an environment that recognizes and rewards your contributions. Central to our compensation philosophy is rewarding our employees for achieving the values and objectives aligned to the company's overall goals and values.

Our published pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and geographical location. Individual pay is based on additional factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training. Moreover, an employee’s total compensation package varies by role and may include salary, cash bonus or commissions, and equity awards not quantified below.

Compensation range: 101,600 - 152,400 annually. This compensation range represents the Company’s good faith belief as to what it will pay as a base salary for this position at the time of this posting.
